The company was originally known as Kimono, until it was rebranded due to controversy surrounding cultural appropriation. In an interview with Marie Claire, Kim spoke about how involved she is in the development of her company’s offerings. She explained that she has to consider various factors, such as fabric thickness and stretchiness, sheen and waist height.
Additionally, she stipulated that the material used is all custom woven exclusively for SKIMS. Kim also revealed that when it comes to getting things done, she prefers to take a hands-on approach – because as she says, “you have to do it yourself”.
