Multiple media outlets report that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have ended their six-year relationship.
The Beginning
The singer and actor, who were first seen together in late 2016, have tried to keep their relationship private through the years. Much of what fans know about their relationship comes from Swift’s music, including their collaborations on her 2020 albums folklore and evermore.
At the start of their relationship, Swift intentionally took a step back from the public eye. This break happened to coincide with the making of her sixth studio album, “reputation,” which not only addressed the negative headlines that had plagued her in the past but also acted as a platform for introducing her new romance with the actor. Songs like “Gorgeous,” “Delicate,” and “Call It What You Want” were clear indications of Swift’s newfound love and the happiness it certainly brought her.

On the track “Call It What You Want” is where we hear Swift reference Alywn. “I want to wear his initial/On a chain round my neck, chain round my neck/Not because he owns me/But ’cause he really knows me.”
The two were able to hide their romance for the initial few months of their relationship before it went public in May 2017. While they have tried to keep their romance private throughout the next several years, they have always shown support for one another. Swift attended the New York City premiere of Alwyn’s film The Favorite. In November 2018, the singer praised the film, which also starred her friend Emma Stone, on Instagram.
Lover, Swift’s seventh studio album, was published in August 2019 and focuses largely on her relationship with Alwyn. Rumors of an engagement were running rampant. Swift also paid homage to the city where their love story began, New York City, on her tracks.

Swift is currently on her Eras Tour, which heads to Tampa, Florida next. News of their breakup explains why Alwyn has seemingly not been spotted at her previous Eras Tour concerts. Alwyn has collaborated once again with Yorgos Lanthimos on the upcoming film “And.”
Amicable Split
The split between Swift and Alwyn is said to be amicable and drama free. It’s been reported that their relationship just ran its course. There have been no statements made by either party regarding their breakup. We certainly wish these two the very best.
