Zuckerberg’s Plan to Adapt to a Changing Business Landscape
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced its plan to reduce its workforce by 10,000 jobs in the upcoming months. This comes on top of the 11,000 jobs that were cut in December 2022, which would shrink the workforce by 13%. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, revealed this information on his Facebook page, where he also shared the internal memo he sent to employees.
The job cuts will primarily affect recruiting teams in the US, with tech teams losing positions by the end of April and business branches seeing job cuts in May. International layoffs will also occur, but the process will take longer. The cuts will account for nearly a quarter of the company’s 86,000-person workforce.
Zuckerberg acknowledged that the layoffs would be difficult, and talented and passionate colleagues would be parting ways with the company. However, he stressed that the cuts were necessary for the company to become more efficient and leaner. Removing layers of management has already resulted in faster efficiency, and he believes that a leaner workforce will lead to even greater speed and success. Check out more photos on DailyMail!
The news of the layoffs has been well-received by the market, with shares rising by 5.5% after the announcement. Following the cuts, Meta will have around 60,000 employees.
Zuckerberg cited the downturn of tech stocks as one of the reasons for the scale-back. He also warned that the economic reality of higher interest rates, geopolitical instability, and increased regulation would continue to affect the industry for many years to come. In the face of this new reality, he believes that operating more efficiently is essential for success.
The job cuts at Meta are not unique
to the company, as other tech giants such as Microsoft and Twitter have also experienced layoffs. The tech industry is facing challenges in a once seemingly invincible growth market.
